Ecology is the big issue of the world. Humanity is rapidly exploiting natural resources for its own needs, and wreaking havoc through environmental disasters.
We have already read several times about the Amazon rainforest problem and the terrible news about how quickly and unwisely the lungs of the world are being destroyed for the short-term economic interests of individuals, companies and even countries.
The problem is huge and it affects us too, because air is not limited by space and we all breathe it. A clean environment is a value we all strive for.
We can start by encouraging and supporting local projects that strive for cleaner, more economical and sustainable use of all ingredients and products.
A good example of this is a project we started at FEYDOM a few years ago.
To raise our environmental awareness, we have started accelerated reforestation of an abandoned plot of land near our factory. Over the past two years, we have planted over 12,000 trees. In 2018, we committed to plant a tree for every sofa sold.
Pavlovnia,
the fastest growing tree, can grow up to seven metres tall in a few years. We chose it because its leaves absorb 10 times more CO2 than other tree species. But we were also convinced by other arguments, such as:
– A new tree forms where the stem is cut, so there is no need for replanting.
– The flowers are beautiful in colour and rich in nectar
– It provides raw material for the wood-processing and furniture industries.
This will allow us to replace part of the raw materials used in the production of the sofas from our own forests, thus contributing to less transport, less deforestation and a lower negative impact on the environment.
