Leather sofas are generally bought as status symbols and are usually used more sparingly. Let’s see why:
Leather sofas are generally more expensive for the quality of the interior construction of the sofa. On average, a leather sofa costs around 30% more than a comparable non-leather sofa. The difference is, of course, due to the more expensive leather material, which is no more practical than the other materials.
Leather seating is not equally friendly to families with children or animals that like to play. While minor damage is easier to cover with a leather coating, major damage remains and is harder to get rid of. In addition, major damage is much more visible on leather seating than on non-leather seating.
Of course, this is not the case for everyone. But there are a few of us who don’t like the feel of leather, and that’s reason enough for us to buy a seat in a different material. One of the specific features of leather sofas is that they tend to be cool in the winter, but get hot and sticky in the summer.
In principle, leather sofas are less comfortable. Of course, this is not true for all materials, but due to its texture, leather is limited in how much it can flex and indent, thus reducing the importance of the seating’s interior design.
As our parents say, “everyone loves a noble home”. Although leather sofas can be combined with a variety of avant-garde, rustic and evergreen home designs, it is difficult to combine them with the existing colour palettes in the room. They are difficult to combine with other furniture, coloured walls or in general with colour palettes that give a feeling of homeliness to a room.
Our main vision is to have a minimal impact on the environment. So we use renewable resources such as cotton and recycled materials to make sure we leave no impression on the environment. Leather seating, however, cannot be made from renewable resources without harming nature.
Okay, we are a little biased here because we love them. It’s hard to make a removable leather cover, and even harder to make one that can be thrown in the washing machine without a problem. Realistically, we know that within the first year, the seat cushion gets spilt, food-soaked and MNI (stain of unknown origin). And it’s much easier than excessive cleaning to take the cover off, throw it in the washing machine, dry it and put it back on. 100% worry-free.
Because of their price, leather seating is often covered with a variety of coverings. Of course, we completely understand that you are worried about wear and tear, but – at least for us – we believe that seating should not only be aesthetically pleasing, but also practical for carefree use.
